ROCO RESCUE CHALLENGE

RESCUE CHALLENGE is a scenario-based event, focused on confined space and high angle rope rescue in industrial and urban settings. Scenarios are designed by Roco instructors to be realistic and challenging. Scores are given and trophies awarded, but Rescue Challenge is more a learning event than a competition with skill-building and teamwork being the ultimate objectives.

Who Attends?

All rescue teams, both industrial and municipal, will benefit from attending Rescue Challenge. The event is set up so that a team’s capability or experience level really doesn’t matter. Each team is simply responding like they would if that scenario happened at their facility. Our expert evaluators provide tailored feedback with the sole intention of helping teams improve as much as possible. Observers are also welcome.

How Does It Work?

Roco Rescue instructors first brief the teams on the scenario. Then teams are “on the clock” to devise and execute a plan to safely rescue the victim(s). Roco instructors closely monitor each team and provide oral and written feedback at the end. Challenge removes teams from the comfort of their home turf and presents them with rescue scenarios that test not only their technical rescue skills but also their ability to work as a team and to think and plan under pressure.

Can Observers Attend Challenge?

YES! Join us to watch all the action. You will learn from attending this exciting event – and perhaps you can join us with a team in the future. Registration is required for observers.

How Will Challenge Benefit My Team?

Realistic scenarios are designed with teaching goals that require different rescue and rigging skills. For example, some of the scenarios include simulated IDLH rescue entries with the use of SAR and SCBA equipment. Others include single-person and multi-casualty scenarios with a mix of manikins and live victims/evaluators as patients.

Challenge Benefits:

  • Meets OSHA minimum annual practice requirements in all six confined space types.
  • Simulates the pressure of responding to an actual emergency rescue.
  • Provides real-world practice in IDLH-simulated scenarios (SCBA & SAR).
  • Identifies team or individual deficiencies for corrective action.
  • Provides added confidence for your rescue team as they are debriefed by evaluators.
  • Documents via written report the team’s rescue capabilities as required by OSHA.
  • Provides a TPE (Team Performance Evaluation) as referenced in NFPA 1006.
  • Sharing of ideas, experiences and techniques with teams from across the nation.
